Rural Schools Alliance

We are pleased to announce that from November 2016 Applemore College has become a founding member of the Rural Schools Alliance - Schools Direct Teacher Training Scheme.

The Rural School’s Alliance is a group of five Hampshire secondary schools that have a generally rural catchment. These schools are; Applemore, Test Valley, Testbourne, Swanmore and Cowplain. We work together to improve the opportunities and resources available to our students.

The Schools Direct Teacher Training Scheme is now the preferred way for graduates to train to become teachers. We are one of three Alliances in Hampshire agreed by the Government and DFE to provide this training.

The advantage of Schools Direct Training is that we work alongside the University of Winchester to provide an excellent training programme leading to a post graduate certificate in education (PGCE). Whilst training, teachers are full members of the University of Winchester

The Alliance is now accepting applications to begin in September 2017. We have been granted 61 places across the five schools as either fee paying or as a salaried position. The places are in the following subjects:

  • English 12 places
  • Maths 12 places
  • Biology 5 places
  • Chemistry 10 places
  • Physics 10 places
  • Geography 5 places
  • History 5 places
  • Modern Foreign Language 5 places
