Joe made the hard decision last year to give up playing Tennis to pursue another love of his, Table Tennis. The reason being because he had gained a county ranking in Table Tennis, which is something he didn’t achieve in his years of playing Tennis.
The rest as they say, is history!
Over the last 2 years, Joe has been a regular attender at Applemore College’s after school Table Tennis club and The Waterside Table Tennis Club.
Ken Macleod has assisted with the running of the school club, he is also a coach from Waterside, and has played a key part for Joe’s transition from school to club.
Joe succeeded in winning the regional tournament in January, against other schools from the New Forest Area, which saw him qualify for the County tournament held last Monday (6th Feb).
Joe won his group stage at the County Tournament, and then proceeded to win every round to and including the final. Joe has now gone undefeated in 2 big competitions, spanning 14 matches.
The national finals now awaits, which are to be held in Wolverhampton on April 29th.
Joe has also been part of a very successful Applemore U13 ‘A’ Team too, who won one of the New Forest Schools Tournaments before Christmas.
It goes without saying that we wish Joe all the best for the nationals, and want to say a huge congratulations to him for this remarkable achievement so far.
It has been fantastic watching the sport of Table Tennis take-off at Applemore over the last few years, and with Joe leading by example long may others follow in his footsteps!
