Twickenham Trip

27 pupils and 4 staff journeyed down to ‘Twickers’ stadium to watch this year’s Old Mutual Wealth Cup game: England vs Barbarians. It was set to be an exciting match, especially once entering the stadium as the pupils enjoyed the pre-match atmosphere whilst finding their seats. Soon the players came out to sing the national anthem; as they lined up pupils were able to spot some familiar faces including Mike Brown, Danny Care, George Ford and Chris Robshaw amongst a youthful England line up. They were also particularly taken aback by the sight of Welsh international Richard Hibbard’s luscious locks on the Barbarians side!

The game kicked off with England getting some points on the board fairly early, setting the standard for the match to come. Although there were a number of stoppages, mainly due to foul play(!) the match concluded with a safe win for the England team, with Care laying down a try in the last minute of the game; of course at which the crowd erupted.

The pupils were ‘buzzing’ after the match; so much so they played a few games of touch rugby with the rugby balls they had purchased from the fan store to show off their quick footwork skills as they had just seen England do. One member of staff was also so excited she couldn’t help but join in!

Soon after the lovely weather departed and the rain began to fall so it was time for Applemore to make their journey home, tired but reminiscent of a good day of Rugby. Let the countdown for next year’s game begin!
