Year 11

Welcome to Year 11 at Applemore.

In Year 11, we want all our students to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve well. We want determined students who are resilient when faced with challenges and have the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure they are successful into the next stage of their lives. In Year 11, we will treat each other and the whole school community with respect, kindness and tolerance.

In Year 11, we are aiming towards some big events, big decisions, big exams and then big and successful futures. We are building our skills to embed the things we have learned over the past years whilst working on how each and every student can get the best out of themselves and each other when that learning is tested.

We are not just focussed on those big exams but, most importantly, where our students are going on to next year, and their successful lives beyond and outside education and training. We have already started visiting colleges and universities, we have lots of college talks and visits coming up, the always well-attended Applemore Careers Fair and then on to applications and interviews!

Year 11 students are not only focussed on their own success and futures, however, but strive to support the school community and engage with the wider community as a whole. Our Prefect Team is sub-divided into four working groups, each with responsibilities aimed towards making positive impact on the school and the community. These four groups are:

  • Attendance – raising awareness of the importance of good attendance, encouraging those who find it difficult to attend, and supporting those who have missed some time.
  • Publicity and Community – sharing the good things going on in the school with other students, as well as the wider community, and working to get everyone involved.
  • Peer Mentors – supporting the younger students particularly, helping them to settle after the transition from Primary to Secondary school, and offering kind listening ears!
  • Prom Committee – organising the event of the century to see our students out with a glitzy, fabulous party!

Year 11 is a challenging year, and students will face many highs and lows before we wish them well and send them off in June 2024! We will get there through working together, respectfully and supportively, and I cannot wait to celebrate each and every success with them in the summer.
