Curriculum
Curriculum Statement
At Applemore we are committed to providing an ambitious, broad, balanced, supported, and challenging curriculum in a safe and welcoming community environment.
Our curriculum allows each individual to develop and believe in their abilities, so that when faced with the challenges within it they can, through determination, achieve and experience success.
Students leave us prepared for the next steps into their adult lives, understanding their roles and responsibilities as citizens of multi-cultural Great Britain, with respect for themselves and each other.
Curriculum Structure:
The Applemore Curriculum is delivered through a structured tutor time programme, life-skills lessons, lessons to GCSE level (Maths, English, Science, Geography, History, RE, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, Creative iMedia, Art and Design, Music, Drama, Photography, Design and Technology, Food and Nutrition, Textiles, Engineering, PE, functional skills in English and Maths), a Resourced Provision for Dyslexia, intervention sessions, trips and visits, a burgeoning and vast extra-curricular programme, and a careers programme covering all year groups.
Cultural Capital:
Development of our students understanding of where our school curriculum fits within a real-world context is hugely important to us within the classroom but also providing the opportunity to see this beyond the classroom is readily available. This will allow our students to enter the world beyond school broadly versed in all that it has to offer.
Curriculum Evaluation:
We believe that all students should have the opportunity to study a broad curriculum and support this with our Options process, as students enter year 10, which keeps the English Baccalaureate at the core of its offer and is ambitious for all.
