Drama
Drama at Applemore thrives on creativity and passion. It promotes communication, commitment, contribution and confidence. Through the experimentation of devising, to performing and evaluating, students learn skills for life and encourage and enable each other to reach their potential. Through Drama, students learn how to believe, to respect each other’s opinions and contributions and how to have the determination to create high quality performances reflecting their own ideas.
Drama at Applemore is a safe and stimulating place to experiment and bring the creativity alive.
Throughout both key stages at Applemore, Drama offers and enables students to not only hone and develop their passion for performing but also discover who they are as a person and how they want to contribute to their community and wider society. We delve into the worlds of Musical Theatre, Documentary theatre, Mime, Script writing and Shakespeare, amongst many other topics, and discover the work of a vast array of theatre practitioners. We look at many different styles of theatre and performance, which truly allows every student to find their own likes and interests in the world of theatre.
For those students who opt to study GCSE Drama in Years 10 and 11, they study for a written exam in which they look at theatre job roles and responsibilities, our set text Blood Brothers and analysis and evaluation of live theatre productions. They also get to fully explore and foster their love of performance through devising their own 20-minute performance as well as performing extracts from a range of fantastic plays. Drama GCSE not only allows students to develop their skills in subject specific areas but also offers a variety of transferable skills which will support them through their further education and into their adult and working lives. There are also numerous Drama related extra-curricular opportunities for Applemore students to enjoy with a particular highlight being our annual school production.
This really is a highlight of the school calendar and will be something that all students who take part will remember forever. Drama is a wonderful subject to study, but Drama at Applemore is really something special.
