Physical Education

Applemore College PE department’s vision is to provide a balanced and holistic programme of sport that encourages all students to play an active role in every lesson. As a department, we aim to equip students with the necessary skills to have the confidence to believe in themselves to be able to lead a healthy and active lifestyle beyond school life. We further aim to create an enjoyable and productive working environment for both staff and pupils, where, together we strive to actively engage to learn and improve, and where participation and achievement is recognised and celebrated.

A particular focus of the department is to develop leadership skills in students, promoting the interpersonal skills (organisation, co-operation, initiative and responsibility) in Key Stage 3&4, and to heighten self-determination, whilst encouraging tolerance of and respect for other groups and individuals. The development of respect with a sense of fair play and good sporting behaviour are considered essential elements in the learning process. Through active participation in a variety of roles within activities experienced, students will be encouraged to appreciate their own and other’s strengths and weaknesses, and respond appropriately to the needs of individuals and groups.

By the end of their physical education at Applemore, students should have developed a personal commitment to, and genuine passion for, maintaining their health and well-being into adult life.

Physical Education is very popular amongst students at Applemore College. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs such as netball, football, trampolining, table tennis, rugby, cricket, rounders and athletics and celebrate our success in The New Forest Schools competition. With access to specialist facilities such as our full-sized, flood lit, all weather pitch, swimming pool, and gym, students have many opportunities both in lessons and after school to improve their physical fitness and develop their inter-personal and leadership skills. The Swimming Pool at Applemore Health and Leisure Centre is regularly used by our students. Students thoroughly enjoy representing their House through inter-house competitions which culminates in our Sports Day, which is always an event to remember. We are a fully inclusive school and encourage our students to try new sports and develop new skills. We believe there is a sport for everyone and look forward to welcoming your child to our team!
